Training resumes at FC Barcelona ahead of Deportivo visit

Varo, Kaptoum, Carbonell and Sarsanedas of the reserves join the available first team members for the Monday evening session

After a few days to rest while the bulk of the squad are off on international duty, training resumed on Monday evening at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, with Luis Enrique continuing preparations for the visit to the Camp Nou of Deportivo la Coruña on Saturday at 4.15pm CET.

With several members of his playing staff still absent, he called on Varo, Kaptoum, Carbonell and Sarsanedas of Barça B to boost the numbers.

Neymar Jr will be back on club duty on Tuesday, for after picking up a suspension in Brazil’s 5-0 defeat of Bolivia, he is not making the trip to Venezuela. Spain internationals Sergio Busquets, Gerard Piqué and Andrés Iniesta, plus Denis Suárez who is in action for the U21 side, will be back at FC Barcelona on Wednesday.

Shortly before the Monday workout, it was announced that both Jasper Cillessen and Sergi Roberto are out with injuries. The Dutch keeper has sprained ligaments in his right knee and will be unavailable for three weeks, while the Catalan full back has a groin strain. With Leo Messi, Samuel Umtiti and Jordi Alba also unfit, it means that five of the first team are now sidelined.
