Vidal's goal was Barça's 100th of the season as a team.
The victory provisionally puts Barça within just one point of first place in the La Liga table.
But it was even sweeter given Vidal’s performance. Having notched two goals and four assists in his last seven games, the 27-year-old full back is peaking at a key moment in the season.
“I’m very happy to help the team score goals,” he said. “I train as hard as I can and I try to take advantage when my name is called.”
On the goal, Vidal deftly swerved through traffic in the midfield but crashed into Neymar before getting the shot off.
“I didn’t see him,” Aleix said. “I stopped and we ran into each other.”
But despite his propensity for generating offense in the last few games and several menacing runs on Saturday — including one that drew a foul and set up Messi’s free-kick goal that made it 2–0 — Aleix Vidal is not attempting to become the fourth member of the trident.
Here are the highlights of what some of Vidal's teammates had to say after the game:
“I am happy with the goal but especially with the team’s victory. The most important thing is the collective.”
“In the first half we wanted to play the ball out from the back and their pressure caused us some problems. The game opened up after the two goals in the first half.”
“If there are rotations, all of the players are ready to help the team.”
Marc-André ter Stegen
“They pressed well and we found it difficult to build from the back.”
“The victory means we worked well defensively. We are on the right path and we won a difficult match. There are always things we can improve on and we need to be perfectionists.”
