Carles Puyol: If anyone can do this, Barça can

"This team has done so much in recent years,” says the former first team captain. “And they deserve every confidence in the world"

Carles Puyol, who played in the Barça defence from 2000 to 2014 and was captain for a whole decade before retiring from professional football, has spoken to Barça TV about how strongly he believes in his former team, even after such an adverse result against Paris Saint Germain.

The winner of three Champions League trophies, among a host of other honours, was speaking at the presentation of new courts for playing padel, a racquet sport that’s particularly popular in Spain, where he was joined by his former co-centre back Gerard Pique.

“This is a time for the team to be united” said the 38-year-old. "By sticking together, they can get through this situation. We know that the result in Paris hurt, but if there is any team that can turn something like this around, then that team is Barça. It’s a difficult result, but not impossible”.

“This team has done a lot in recent years” he added. “And they deserve every confidence in the world. I am with them to the death, not just because they are friends of mine but because at Barça we are all in the same boat. We can’t afford to have doubts. We have to fight to the end.”
