Gerard Piqué: 'It is fantastic news that the best player in the world is staying'

Gerard Piqué spoke about the latest blaugrana news at the Rakuten presentation in Japan. The Barça defender discussed Leo Messi’s contract extension until 2021: “It is great news as he will help us continue to fight to win trophies.”

At the same time, the centre-back spoke warmly about starting his first preseason under Ernesto Valverde: “I am excited to start the new season. We have to try and win all the trophies and this will only happen if we have a good preseason and win the Spanish Super Cup.”

Finally, Piqué touched on how important it is for the Club to grow in Japan. “Barça are trying to expand in Asia and Japan is a very important country. I am sure that the people here will get to know us a lot better” he concluded.
