There is little more that could have been asked of FC Barcelona at the start of this season. They have won all seven of their LaLiga games so far, heading into the international break top of the table with a perfect 21 points, five clear of their nearest challengers, Atlético Madrid and Betis.
Tata eight from eight
It has been an almost flawless start, but Barça want more. Victory in their first league game back after the international break would see them equal the best start to a LaLiga season in the club's history, with eight wins from the opening eight games.
Only one Barça side has ever managed that feat: Tata Martino's team in 2013/14, his one and only season in charge.
That Barça side began the campaign with eight straight wins, posting some impressive scoring figures along the way, although not quite matching the numbers being produced by the current team. They opened with a 7-0 rout of Levante before three much tighter victories: 1-0 away to Málaga, 3-2 at Mestalla and 3-2 at home to Sevilla. They then hit their stride again with convincing wins over Rayo Vallecano (4-0) and Real Sociedad (4-1).
Further victories against Almería (2-0) and Valladolid (4-1) made it eight from eight before Barça finally dropped points with a goalless draw away to Osasuna in Pamplona. More than a decade later, Hansi Flick's Barça now have the chance to match that historic start.
Getafe always a tough test
It will be no straightforward task. Barça will be returning from three weeks without club football, with more than half the squad away on international duty and many of them having played four games during the break.
And the opposition will be Getafe, never an easy side to face. Bordalás' teams invariably provide a stern test, but Barça will return in excellent form and with another impressive run to protect. Having won their last 22 LaLiga games at home, the blaugranes will be looking to make it 23.
