Belgian club Royal Antwerp Football Club and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of Álvaro Cortés. FC Barcelona reserve the right to a percentage of a future sale.

5 years in blaugrana 

Álvaro Cortés joined the club in the summer of 2021 from the youth ranks of Real Zaragoza. The defender joined Barcelona's U19B team, and after a first season of adaptation, he played the 2022/23 season on loan to CF Damm in the División de Honor. In 2023, he returned to Barça and joined preseason training with Barça Atlètic.

He officially debuted with the reserve team on the first matchday of the 2023/24 season, at SD Logroñés on August 27, but later returned to the U19A squad, where he played three league matches and one UEFA Youth League match.

In the 2024/25 season Cortés became a fixture in the Barça Atlétic side. The centre back from Aragón made 30 appearances for the team and the following season he became captain, playing 28 games under coach Juliano Belletti. 

On 13 May 2026 he made his debut for the Barça first team in a game against Alavés in Mendizorrotza in La Liga, playing all 90 minutes of the La Liga encounter. Now the defender starts a new stage of his career in Antwerp. Good luck, Álvaro!
