Previous Italian appearances at the Joan Gamper Trophy
On Sunday, the 56th Joan Gamper Trophy will also be the first ever to be played at the Estadi Johan Cruyff and also the first to include both the men’s and women’s teams.

It’s the fourteenth time that an Italian team has been the guest, dating back to 1986 when Barça met AC Milan in the semi-final.
Only twice has an Italian side actually won the trophy. The first was in 2005, the only previous occasion when Juventus have been the guests. That was one of the most memorable Gampers of all, being the game when much of the world, Juve boss Fabio Capello included, became aware of the rising talent that was Leo Messi. With goals from Del Piero and Trezeguet, the Italians ended up winning that game on penalties.
The only other Italian victor was Sampdoria in 2012.
