16 year old England Youth international finds the net against Ebro for debut strike in official competition since summer move from West Brom

Louie Barry scored his first goal in official competition for the FC Barcelona U19A side in the handsome 6-0 win over Ebro for Franc Artiga’s side. The 16 year old England Youth international had made his first appearance in the league for his new club earlier in the month against San Francisco, however, Sunday’s game was his first ever appearance for the blaugranes in the starting XI.

The striker marked the occasion with an excellent taken effort in the second half to add Barça’s fifth in the victory at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. Barry joined Barça in the summer from English Championship club West Bromwich Albion and impressed in pre-season, scoring three times. The youngster, who holds both British and Irish nationality, was made to wait for his official debut but has wasted no time in making an impact at his new club.

British born blaugranes

Louie Barry is by no means the first British born player to represent FC Barcelona across the various categories in recent times. London born Marcus McGuane joined Barça B in January 2018 and made an appearance for the first team in that season’s Catalan Super Cup final against Girona. The midfielder is still a blaugrana but this season finds himself out on loan at Dutch club Telstar.

McGuane was the first British born player to represent the Club since Gary Lineker 29 years previously. The England football legend scored 42 goals for Barça between 1986 and 1989 winning Copa del Rey and European Cup Winners’ Cup titles. Also in the 1980s, Welsh striker Mark Hughes briefly plied his trade at Camp Nou as did Scotsman Steve Archibald who won the league title with the blaugranes in 1985 under English coach Terry Venables.
