Reial Madrid 1-1 Barça U19A: Unable to complete the comeback

Barça tried their best to qualify, but an unexpected goal put an end to their cup run

Barça's U19A side were unable to reverse a 0-2 Copa del Rey quarterfinal first leg deficit, and were eliminated after a 1-1 draw at Real Madrid. Antonio Jesús gave the visitors hope, but an 84th minute goal from the hosts meant they couldn't end the 2018/19 season with a win.

Chances not taken

Denis Silva's team had the bit between their teeth from the first whistle, and a clear goal in mind: to overcome the 0-2 deficit. However, when they were within sight of goal, chances weren't taken. In fact, it was Real Madrid who came closest to opening the scoring in the early exchanges. As the game wore on, both goalkeepers, Tenas and Altube, were kept on their toes.

Hoping for a comeback

From the start of the second half, Ansu Fati pressed again and again from the left side, and eventually that pressure told with Antonio Jesús sending Barça into the lead (0-1, min 50). The visitors continued on the front foot, though Los Blancos carved out chances of their own, all of which Arnau Tenas was equal to.

As the game reached the latter stages, both teams were frantic. Real needed a goal to kill off the tie and a second from Barça would send the game into extra time. The next goal, when it arrived, was spectacular, Antonio Blanco scoring from near the half way line. With just six minutes left to play, there was little time to come back, and, therefore, the U19A side ended their 2018/19 season disappointed.
