Barça B went down to defeat in the Miniestadi against an excellent Hércules side who showed just why they are in second place in the table. The blaugranes gave everything but after conceding twice in quick succession in the first half, they were always up against it. As such Barça B were unable to record a win in the Miniestadi in their final game at the venue as next season they will play at their new home, the Johan Cruyff stadium.
The home side enjoyed the first real chance of the game with Cuenca heading wide. Barça B, as is customary under coach Garcia Pimienta, dominated possession with Hércules looking to hit the home side on the break. The visitors enjoyed a chance in just such fashion and Juanjo Nieto’s finish on 17 minutes gave Hércules the lead.
Just two minutes later Adrían made it two for the away side with a smart finish. Barça B looked to hit back before the break and they went close through Carles Pérez and Oriol Busquets.
In the second half Iñaki Peña showed his talents in goal. The Barça keeper made excellent saves from first Chechu and then Carlos to keep Hércules at bay. Brazilian striker Novaes had a great chance to make it 3-0 for the visitors but once again Iñaki Peña came to the rescue.
Hércules were able to see out the rest of the half without too much trouble with a victory that ended Barça B’s hopes of making it to the play offs. The blaugranes final game of the league season comes next weekend away at Castellón.
