Barça Lassa – Olimpia Milano: A statement at the Palau (90-80)

A 12-0 partial at the start of the second quarter proved decisive against powerful opposition on Friday night

Barça Lassa took a big win over Armani Exchange Olimpia Milano on Matchday 9 of the Euroleague season, besting the Italian outfit 90-80 at the Palau Blaugrana. An impressive second quarter showing allowed the team to defeat one of the most in-form teams in the competition in the Friday night showdown.

The match began with both teams shooting well in the opening five minutes, and the visitors held a slight lead (11-13). A three-pointer on the buzzer at the end of the first quarter from Jaka Blazic made it 24-25.

A 12-0 partial to take control

In the second quarter, Barça Lassa let loose. A 12-0 partial provided an impressive 33-15 lead, setting the home side up for the victory. Although their Italian opposition would cut the gap slightly by the end of the first half, consecutive triples from Singleton and a great solo move by Pangos meant that the home side were still comfortable heading into the second (53-42).

Intensity to maintain the lead

The gap between the two sides was extended at the start of the second half, when a three-pointer made it 65-49 on 25 minutes. Defensive work and high intensity kept Barça Lassa in front, and they would pull 20 points ahead on the half-hour (74-54).

The final period saw the Blaugrana continue in control, and they never allowed their opponents back into the game.

A 90-80 victory sets them up perfectly for the week ahead, which culminates with El Clásico against Real Madrid.
