FC Barcelona v Real Madrid: Visitors’ sharpshooting decisive (63-102)

Madrid’s 14 trebles prove a telling factor as Barça are unable to repeat the displays from the previous two Clásicos

FC Barcelona Lassa fell to a heavy defeat against rivals Real Madrid on Friday in the Euroleague at the Palau Blaugrana, going down 102-63 due to some impressive throwing from distance by the visiting team.

The start made by Madrid, going up seven points within a blink of an eye, was to be a sign of things to come. Despite Tomic and Dorsey’s attempts to rally the team back into action, the visitors’ accuracy from the three-point line proved impossible to cope with, as they ended the first quarter 12 points ahead.

In the second, Barça managed to reduce the deficit thanks to a burst from Dorsey who helped bring the score to 25-34 but Madrid soon took over again due to some quick transitions and accurate throwing (25-44). Olesson’s three pointer on the buzzer just before the break gave Barça slim hope of a revival (31-54).

Four straight points from Rice gave Barça hope once more but, as was previously the case, Maciulis’ three-point accuracy quickly quashed optimism.

Barça looked physically drained as the score continued to increase in Madrid’s favour. The match was all but wrapped up in the final quarter as a fresh-looking Madrid extended the lead to a convincing 103-63 by the final whistle. A day to forget for the blaugrana.
