TD Systems Baskonia 68–72 FC Barcelona: Into the Super Cup final
Saras Jasikevicius' team knock out the current league champions to reach Sunday's final
Saras Jasikevicius' Barça team have knocked out league champions Baskonia to reach Sunday's Super Cup final after Àlex Abrines played a crucial role in the win with a stellar third period performance.
Barça needed more than two minutes to get on the scoreboard but a 5-0 deficit was soon turned into a 16-5 lead thanks to the leadership of Calathes. Baskonia's defence tightened up in the rest of the half and at the break the lead was reduced to seven at 35-28.
In the third period it appeared Baskonia were working their way back into the game when Àlex Abrines appeared scoring 16 points in rapid succession, including 4 three pointers. That impetus gave the blaugranes a 60-45 with just the fourth quarter to come.
When the contest seemed over the Basque revived the game with an impressive comeback that brought them to within touching distance of Barça. However, Jasikevicius' team held on for the 72-68 which hands them a place in the final in Tenerife on Sunday at 6.30pm CEST.
