FC Barcelona reasserts its commitment to the Mobile World Congress, to the city and to innovation in sport

President Josep Maria Bartomeu attends the city council's ‘Barcelona Always Connected’ event to welcome the world's biggest mobile technology fair back to the city

This Thursday, Josep Maria Bartomeu attended the Barcelona always Connected event in the Saló de Cent organised by the city council as a welcome to the Mobile World Congress, and which featured guests from the financial, academic and research sectors.

The FC Barcelona president reasserted the club’s commitment to the city and mobile technology and especially with regard to innovation in sport, which it channels through the Barça Innovation Hub.

FC Barcelona is “a global brand that reaches all around the world” he said. “And that’s not just in football and sport, but in many other activities too”.

“The MWC has been held in Barcelona for many years” he continued. “And that represents an opportunity to promote a city that is highly committed to technology and innovation. At FC Barcelona we have some very big projects involving research and innovation. And our long history of association with the MWC, through research in different areas of sport, represents a chance to raise awareness of our work. But we cannot do this alone. We need the support of institutions and universities, and of the general public in Barcelona too.”

Speaking precisely about the Barça Innovation Hub, he explained that “this is our way of sharing our knowledge, technology and innovation projects with the world … It is a highly ambitious programme that’s based on training for the future.”

The Mobile World Congress is being held in Barcelona from February 26 to March 1.
