The Fira de Barcelona-Gran Via which is hosting the Congress in Barcelona | GSMA

On Monday in Barcelona a new edition of the Mobile World Congress got under way with FC Barcelona heavily involved in various events linked to technological innovation and the sports industry. The first of these took place on Monday, a round table discussion named Live events and fan engagement, a session that analysed how innovation can personalise and improve the fans experience inside the stadium.

The discussion was moderated by Caroline Chan, vice president and director general of the 5G infrastructure INTEL – the company in charge of the event – and participants included Marcos Picalló, responsible for academic relations at the Barça Innovation Hub, as well as representatives from entities such as LaLiga, MediaPro, Nokia and INTEL Sports. The main topic of the discussion was the immersive experiences in the world of football that are offering to fans new ways of seeing the sport, principally through virtual reality, volumetric videos and 5G connectivity. For his part, Picalló also explained how the technological innovation in other areas at FC Barcelona is being applied especially via various different projects that the Barça Innovation Hub has launched.

The next visit from FC Barcelona to the Mobile World Congress will take place on Wednesday when president Josep Maria Bartomeu will attend the Enhancing the consumer experience  session, organised by Sports & Entertainment Summit. Barça Innovation Hub has a permanent space at the Innovation City stall at the congress thanks to their year old collaboration with GSMA as well as a joint project with Google and Snapchat.
