Wembley 25 Exhibit opens at FC Barcelona Museum

The Club unveiled its plans to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Barça's first European Cup, which will culminate with a special tribute at Camp Nou on 10 June

FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu officially inaugurated a special exhibit in the Club’s Museum dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Barça’s first European Cup, which came at Wembley Stadium in London on 20 May 1992. To commemorate the historic title, the Club has programmed a series of events, which were presented at Wednesday’s opening of the Wembley 25 Exhibit.

Among the attendees at the official presentation were FC Barcelona vice-presidents, Jordi Cardoner and Jordi Mestre, directors Maria Teixedor and Pau Vilanova, former player and member of the team that won the 1992 European Cup, José Mari Bakero, ex-players Serna, Juan Carlos, Julio Alberto and Herrera, assistant manager of that team Carles Rexach as well as other staff members from that season.

The Wembley Exhibit, which will be open inside the Barça Museum through 30 September, brings back to life the memories and experiences inherent in that extraordinary European Cup final, complete with photos, videos, and original artifacts and memorabilia from the title match against Sampdoria. Contributions from those who were on hand that day will be visible through several screens displaying the material that Barça members and fans gave the Club and which pertain to their personal experiences surrounding the game.

Just prior to the opening of the Wembley Exhibit, Mr. Cardoner, Club Spokesman Josep Vives, and Bakero, who is serving as the Commissioner of the 25th anniversary celebrations, together presented the series of events planned in remembrance of the victory at Wembley.

Tribute at Camp Nou on 10 June

The focal point of the Wembley 25 commemoration will take place in early June and will culminate in a grand tribute at Camp Nou on Saturday, 10 June, consisting of a special show centered around two main themes — Style of Play and The Essence of Wembley 92. In the days before, on 7, 8, and 9 June, a series of speeches and discussions will be held in the Auditori 1899, while a tribute dinner will be held on Friday, 9 June with the full team of players who won that first European Cup.

Hashtag and Commemorative jersey

In addition, the hashtag #Wembley25, which will be used throughout the Club’s digital campaigns relating to the commemoration, the team will wear a special, commemorative jersey during its final La Liga match of the season, which is set for 20 May versus Eibar at Camp Nou.

2016 Joan Gamper and Blaugrana jersey

During Wednesday’s presentation, Mr. Vives, the Club Spokesman, also reminded those on hand of the handful of ways in which the Club has been paying homage to that magical title throughout the current season. Among them, he highlighted the 2016 Joan Gamper Trophy game versus Sampdoria — the same club Barça beat in the Wembley ’92 final — as well as the designs of the team’s jersey for this season and of the FC Barcelona member ID card, both of which employ colors and patterns mimicking those worn by the 1992 team.

Share your memory

Another way in which the Club has celebrated what is arguably the most famous title in Barça history has been through a recent campaign calling on members and fans to share their memories by way of images and audio-visual material from the Wembley ’92 final. In the campaign’s first month, the Club received some 600 items, which can be seen at the Exhibit which opened Wednesday.
