FC Barcelona technical secretary Robert Fernández spoke to Barça TV programme ‘Hora B’ where he spoke about the current state of the team as well as plenty of other important topics surrounding the club.

“In order to compete and to be champions you must have good players and have a good group,” Fernández said before adding that “if you do not have a good squad it is tough to win complicated games”.

On the club’s summer recruitment, he spoke of the importance of “searching for young players and who have had a good run at their clubs” while also “maintaining the team’s strong core”.

Not only have new players come into the Club but Barça have also managed to tie down some key squad members with renovations to several existing contracts.

Javier Mascherano and Neymar put pen to paper last week, and Fernández said that they are renewals that have come in “a year of hard-work in all aspects, within a great team and there are others who are on their way [towards renewal].”
