The worldwide media was thinking of Cruyff on Friday. / FCB

He was a total genius, he reinvented football, he was Barça's universal creator, a visionary, an inspiration. On 25 March, the most prominent European newspapers used their front pages to praise the figure of Johan Cruyff (1947–2016).

Outside Spain, Cruyff's death was deeply felt in his native The Netherlands, reflected in the Dutch newspapers De Telegraaf and Metro. In England, it was Mirror and the Sun. The Daily Telegraph and the Daily Express also devoted ample space to 'El Flaco'. In France, L'Equipe honoured The Flying Dutchman with a full-page cover story stressing that he was the game.
