The Handball team won the section's 9th European Cup in Cologne/ GERMÁN PARGA - FCB

FC Barcelona continue to pile up European trophies and following the Handball team’s win over Veszprém, the Club has now taken 38 European Cups across the five professional sports sections – Football, Basketball, Roller Hockey, Handball and Futsal.

The Roller Hockey section boasts the most titles, having taken its 21st European Cup this season by beating Vic, 42 years after its first – in 1973, which makes it one Cup every other season.

Xavi Pascual’s Handball team won the European Cup at the weekend in Cologne - the ninth time since 1991 when Valero Ribera led them to their first title. Since then, Barça have proved themselves a giant in European Handball.

Third European Cup of the season up for grabs

With the Roller Hockey and Handball sides’ success this campaign, the Football team have the chance to make it three European Cups in one season for the Club if they can defeat Juventus in Berlin on Saturday and claim their own fifth European Cup, following the wins in 1992, 2006, 2009 and 2011.

The Club’s Basketball and Futsal teams have both won two European Cups: in 2003 and 2010 for the Basketball side and 2012 and 2014 for the Futsal team, who came close to retaining their title in the Final Four in Lisbon this year, only to lose to Kairat Almaty (2-3). Saturday’s Final in Berlin will then, be the Club’s fourth European Final this season, with the basketball team just failing to make the Final Four of the Euroleague.
