FC Barcelona cede Barça TV to Telefónica

The channel will broadcast in HD on digital platforms and will still be available free-to-air via TDT in Catalonia

From Wednesday 1 July at 12.00 pm the contract through which FC Barcelona cede the running of the Club’s official channel Barça TV to Telefónica for the next four seasons. The agreement sees the Club maintain the channel’s official status and editorial control over its contents.

The agreement will bring with it a technological update for the entire channel and will take place gradually over the next two months without affecting transmission. The most significant change will be the move to broadcasting in High Definition. From this week Barça TV will broadcast in HD on digital platforms whilst at the same time it will continue to be able to be seen via the same distribution channels as now, including free-to-air TDT broadcasting within Catalonia.

During the first two weeks of the month of July, until the first team return to training on 13 July, Barça TV will dedicate their programming to the ‘Heroes of the Treble’, with the best goals, reports and games that pay tribute to the leading figures in the historic 2014/15 season which has only just ended.

The new era will bring with it a change of image and of content for the channel, which will begin to be seen shortly, coinciding with the beginning of the official season 2015/16 for the football first team.

FC Barcelona would like to thank Mediapro and their team for their efforts and collaboration from the birth of Barça TV in 1999 which have helped it grow and establish itself as one of the leading club television channels.
