Josep Maria Bartomeu has made his first Assembly speech as Club president with the emphasis very much on the future.  Mr Bartomeu confirmed he will be standing in the 2016 elections and looked ahead to “a time to transform Barça and make it into a more efficient club, better managed and more competitive”.

He described last season as “one of the toughest in recent years” and highlighted seven issues that had affected the Club.  These included the change of president, the Neymar case, the FIFA sanction, the loss of Tito Vilanova, the positioning of the Club with regard to the right to decide and the Nou Espai Barça.

However, Bartomeu is looking to the future and assured delegates that he has “a well defined route map”.  He summarised this in seven “exciting and ambitious” challenges, the main one being to improve sporting competitiveness.  He pointed out that the football squad had undergone a “profound renewal” in the summer under the guidance of Zubizarreta and Luis Enrique, with 24 movements in and out.

In addition, the president discussed the Espai Barça project, the consolidation of Club finances, the strengthening of the executive structure and the Barça brand, development of the work done by the Foundation and developing the social side of the Club’s activities.

Bartomeu also announced this morning that shirt sponsorship and the Espai Barça projects for the Camp Nou and the Palau Blaugrana will be put to the next assembly for approval.  In 2015 an external commission of experts will be created in order to invite proposals for the Espai Barça.
