The five stages of the Espai Barça project

After the members gave a clear mandate to go ahead with the Espai Barça project in the referendum held last April, work began on creating a specialised team to see the transformation of the FC Barcelona facilities was kept on schedule.

The local authorities in Sant Joan Despí have already given the green light to the work on the Nou Miniestadi and the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper and the Barcelona City Council will now discuss the Club’s plans which have been developed over the last few months with the help of local architects, lawyers and other organisations. A large part of this planning has involved the Building Information Modelling of the Club’s facilities in order to ensure maximum control of costs and future management, which is estimated at savings of up to 20% in energy costs and 15% annual savings in maintenance.

Six different roof types

Another aspect of the work carried out over the last 12 months has been the study into which kind of roofing the new Camp Nou will have. The roofing entails about 15% of the total cost of the stadium work and the studies have focussed on six solutions, taking into account protecting fans, pitch upkeep, comfort, air-flows and the possibility of including solar panels. Studies into the use and requirements of all the facilities and a geothermic study to establish ground resistance have also taken place.
