Taking advantage of this evening’s match between Manchester City and FC Barcelona, the Club promoted Catalan culture and Catalonia as a tourist destination during various events around the British city. The main event took place this morning at the School of Arts, Languages and Culture in Manchester; the keynote speaker was Vice-President Carles Vilarrubí.

The event, which was held at the Samuel Alexander Theatre at the University of Manchester, was introduced by director Ramon Llull, Àlex Susanna and professor Keith Brown, vice-president and deacon of the Faculty of Humanities. The event, which was titled ‘Barça, Sport, Culture and Education’, concluded with a speech from Villarrubí that detailed how Barça has been instrumental in recovering and integrating the Catalan identity . “We take advantage of FC Barcelona’s platform when the team travels in the Champions League to explain the Club, Barcelona and Catalonia to the world. What Barcelonismo means in Catalonia’s recent history from the perspective of integration.” Villarrubí also talked about the education model employed at La Masia and the values that define the Club, like teamwork, respect, humility and tolerance.

Directors Jordi Moix, Josep Ramon Vidal-Abarca and Ramon Pont attended the event, as did the delegate of the Generalitat de Catalunya to the United Kingdom, Josep Suárez.

On Monday, the director responsible for the Club’s Economic Area, Jordi Moix, participated in an event organised by FC Barcelona, the Catalan Tourism Agency and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce. The event was designed to present Catalonia as a tourist destination.
