What is Sant Jordi Day?

Sant Jordi Day, also known Saint George’s Day, is one of the most unique Catalan festivals in the calendar year. During the day, couples usually exchange gifts: men receive a book and women receive a rose. Gift exchanges aren’t limited to couples in the throes of romance, however, family and friends also indulge in the tradition. It’s also worth pointing out that Sant Jordi has been the patron saint of Barcelona since the 15th century.
