Xavi Hernández is the winner of the third edition of the Barça Fair Play Award. The award was given out by the Barça Players Association to the first team player that exhibited the most fair play in the 2011/12 season. The jury, made up of Club representatives and the members of the press core, gathered at the Camp Nou this Wednesday. The players on the shortlist for the award were Xavi Hernández, Éric Abidal, Andrés Iniesta, Leo Messi, Pedro Rodríguex and Carles Puyol.

The values that Xavi exhibits

According to the jury, “Xavi embodies the values of an athlete. He’s committed, he’s eager, he’s a team player, he respects his opponents and he’s generous. His commitment to FC Barcelona was evident throughout the season as he played a fundamental role in the transition of youth system players into the first team.”

The jury also took into account Xavi’s “ability to overcome adversity and play each game as if it were his first. He also displayed humility when he came so close to winning individual awards.” In addition, the jury also considered “his ability to put personal relationships ahead of athletic rivalries.”

Xavi after Bojan and Iniesta

Xavi will receive his trophy, which is a sculpture made by the artists Agustí Puig, in the coming weeks. Bojan and Iniesta were the winners of the 2009/10 and 2010/11 editions of the award.
