Sandro Rosell has encouraged everyone to visit the Catalan Rugby Festival that will be held on 15th September in the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium. Barça will donate the proceeds from the sale of tickets to the people affected by the wildfires in the Alt Empordà.

Speaking at the presentation of the 2nd Catalan Rugby Festival at the Town Hall in Figueres, Sandro Rosell called on everyone to take part in the festival, which brings together sport, Catalan pride and families, and which will include a French Top 14 league game between USAP Perpignan and Stade Toulousain. The Club will donate the proceeds from ticket sales to the people affected by the wildfires which devastated 14,000 hectares in the northern Catalan region of Alt Empordà in July.

The presentation, held under the slogan “Everyone for the Empordà”, was also attended by the Mayor of Figueres Santi Vila and the president of USAP Paul Goze. In his speech, Santi Vila thanked FC Barcelona for this gesture towards the people affected by the wildfires: “This is real patriotism, with actions not just words”.

“Barça is also about responsibility and solidarity with Catalonia"

Sandro Rosell said that it was “an honour and a pleasure” for the Club to have the opportunity of taking part in the festival, and highlighted two reasons. The first, because “it’s a way of taking part in Catalan sport”, and secondly because it would contribute “to helping the Empordà with this tragic fire which took four human lives”. “Barça isn’t just about sport, it’s also about responsibility and solidarity with Catalonia”.

The president of FC Barcelona reminded those present that this tragic event “had made the hearts of the Catalan people bleed” and he gave public thanks to the people who took part in extinguishing the fires –forestry wardens, fire-fighters, police and volunteers among others. “We are encouraging everyone to go to this match, the proceeds from which will go towards recovering the affected areas”. During question time, Rosell refused to speak about any other topic, stressing that: “Today, Barça is with the Empordà".

After the press conference, Sandro Rosell, Santi Vila and Paul Goze made a private visit to the area affected by the fires, specifically the towns of Llers and Avinyonet de Puigventós. “I’ve also been burned”

Sandro Rosell was given T-shirts for the Barça players bearing the phrase “I’ve also been burned”, designed to support the people affected by wildfires this summer and raise consciousness in order to prevent fires in the future.

"Tito Vilanova has made one of the best starts"

Sandro Rosell also spoke about Tito Vilanova’s successful start as first team manager, with three wins from three matches. “We are very happy at how he’s begun the league. Tito has made one of the most successful starts in the history of the Club, something that hadn’t happened since the time of Louis van Gaal".
