This second week of August, which ended with FC Barcelona’s last 2012/13 pre-season friendly, leaves us with a series of news worthy stories which are highlighted below:

Monday, training session in Girona

The first team trained at Girona’s Montilivi stadium in front of 7,350 cheering fans. Captain Carles Puyol presented a signed Barça jersey to the president of Girona to raise funds for the victims of the Empordà fires.

Fontàs gets medical all clear

This Tuesday, the Azulgrana center back was given the medical green light to play after spending seven months on the sidelines due to injury. On January 12, Andreu Fontàs tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the match against Osasuna at Reyno de Navarra. The Catalan got his first minutes on the pitch, 30 minutes to be precise, in this weekend’s match against Dinamo Bucharest.Todorovic, Azulgrana

Marko Todorovic signs for Barça Regal

Barça Regal sign another player. On August 7, the Club announced that the Juventut Badalona player Marko Todorovic was officially an Azulgrana. The player signed a two-year contract with Barça Regal (2012/13 and 2013/14) with the option to extent his contract for an additional year, through June 30, 2015.

 A day at Encamp

FC Barcelona Intersport are preparing for the upcoming season. This Tuesday, the handball team spent the entire day at Encamp, where the players completed three training sessions

Jordi Alba makes his debut

In FC Barcelona’s fourth pre-season friendly, against Manchester United, Tito Vilanova sent out his newest player, Jordi Alba. The manager subbed in the left back on 66 minutes. In addition to defending, Alba showed off his attacking abilities as thundered down the left wing on various occasions.

Barça Alusport returns to work

Marc Carmona’s men returned to training this Thursday. The Azulgranas first passed their medical check-ups at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper in the morning, and in the afternoon the players completed their first training session of the 2012/13 pre-season. 12 first-team players including the new signing Aicardo reported to Carmona that day.

High marks for Eusebio Sacristán’s men

The Barça B manager is pleased with how his team has performed on English soil. The undefeated Barça B team beat Huddersfield Town and drew with Bolton Wonderers. After the matches, Sacristán said, “we’re ready for the start of the season.”

Villa’s return

‘El Guaje’ has returned to competitive football after nearly eight months since he broke the tibia in his left leg. Vilanova subbed the forward in for Sergio Roberto on the 73rd minute against Dinamo Bucharest. After the match, the Spaniard said that “I have to be patient, I’ve been away for a long time. My goal is to improve on a daily basis.”

The end of the 2012/13 pre-season

FC Barcelona closed out the 2012/13 pre-season after this week’s games against Manchester United and Dinamo Bucharest. The players have one week to prepare for the first official match of the season. Here's a look back at FC Barcelona's pre-season.

Gold for Sorhaindo in the Olympic Games

The Frenchman won the gold medal after his country edged Sweden by 22-21 in the handball final of the Olympic Games. Sorhaindo is the seventh gold medalist for Barça in the history of the Club. Sjostrand and Jernemyr won silver, and Navarro and Sada, playing for the Spainsh national basketball team, also won silver.
