The five captains of FC Barcelona’s professional teams for the 2012/13 season all have one thing in common: they all learnt their trade in the Club’s youth academies. Carles Puyol, Juan Carlos Navarro, Victor Tomàs, Aitor Egurrola and Jordi Torras are steeped in the history and sentiments of the Club.

Puyol: the heart

Carles Puyol entered the Masia in 1995. He made his first team debut four years later and quickly carved out a place for himself. He’s been team captain since Luis Enrique left in 2004. At the age of 34, Puyol is still a regular member of the Barça defensive line-up and is second in the ranking of competitive games played in the history of the Club.

Egurrola: the octopus

Aitor Egurrola was born in Barcelona in 1980 and joined Barça in 1995. He made his competitive debut in goal for the roller hockey team in 1998 where he would learn from a master - Carles Folguera. Fourteen years later, he in turn is helping to develop one of the most promising goalkeepers of the future, Sergi Fernandez. With the retirement of Beto Borregán, Egurrola is now the senior captain of the side managed by Gaby Cairo.

Torras: success

Jordi Torras came up through the futsal youth ranks and in 1996, at the tender age of 16, made his first team debut in what was then a semi-pro team. In 2003 he moved on to further his pro career, returning to the Palau in 2010 with a long list of honours. He’s won the lot in two historic seasons with Barça Alusport and now, at the age of 32, his team-mates have chosen him to take over from Javi Rodriguez as team captain.
