Josep Aubach

Born in Montoliu, Lleida, on March 11th 1917, Josep Aubach was a strong and decisive defender. He played for Lleida and Tárrega before arriving at FC Barcelona in the 1934/35 season, where he only played in three friendly matches that season. His official debut for the Club was on May 26th 1935 away to Girona.

Despite his young age, in the 1935/36 season he played in two League games for the first team, the first was on March 22nd 1936 in Chamartín against Madrid and the second was a week later at Les Corts against Osasuna, where he lined up with historic Club figures like Pedrol, Balmanya, Ventolrá, Raich and Escolá.

Volunteer in the Republican Army

When the Civil War started, Aubach played in four friendly matches in the 1936/37 season. His last game in an Azulgrana shirt was on December 5th 1936 against L’Hospitalet. A couple of weeks later, in January of the next year, he left the Club to fight as a volunteer in the Republican Army. When the war ended he returned to football, he played for Reus, UE Lleida and Oviedo.

Honoured in 1999

On May 8th 1999, FC Barcelona and UE Lleida honoured all of the Barça players that were born in the province of Lleida in a match played Camp d’Esports. José Aubach, Josep Vila, Enric Gensana, Enric Ribelles, Josep Maria Fusté and Antoni Torres, among other, were present.
