The world of football said its last goodbye to ex-FC Barcelona player Juan Carlos Pérez López. The ex-Barça captain passed away this Monday in his hometown of Santander at the age of 67 after a long battle with a degenerative disease. His funeral took place this past Tuesday at the Iglesia del Barrio Pesquero in Santander. The ceremony was attended by hundreds of people linked to the footballing world, especially representatives of Racing Santander and FC Barcelona.

FC Barcelona wanted to be present at the funeral to offer condolences to the family and to bid the ex-captain farewell. The Club was represented by Juan Carlos’ ex-teammates Carles Rexach, José Maria Fusté and Juan Manuel Asensi.

Furthermore, other footballing figures like Javier Irureta, Aitor Aguirre, Preciado, and the captains of Racing Santander Gonzalo Colsa and Pedro Munitis attended the ceremony.

Juan Carlos was a FC Barcelona midfielder in the 1970s and he captained the Catalan team during the historic 0-5 thrashing of Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu in 1974, where he scored a goal.
