FIFA, along with many stakeholders in the football family is developing a global standard for player tracking systems. Over the last 24 months, a consultation process has taken place that has led to four specific research areas, each of which will contribute to the minimum and professional standards for the use of tracking systems in football. The major axes are player safety, data security, data format and validity of system outputs (in absolute terms and in real time). The presentation will share the status quo of the outlined research areas and the way forward for FIFA and all stakeholders.
