Exporting Barça values

FC Barcelona is using Regal Barça’s US tour to export some values which it hopes to further everywhere. “We are the sports ambassadors for Catalonia,” says Josep Cubells, the director in charge of Barça’s basketball section.


QM3D6321.jpgIn the two days so far of Regal Barça’s US tour, Barça’s presence has started to make itself felt, especially among groups such as the Red Shield Center which are linked in some way with basketball and Barça. “Barça is more than a club. We have clear goals. We are the sports ambassadors for Catalonia. And we want to export our way of being Catalans globally around the world in terms of sports culture,” says Josep Cubells. “We’re seeing that now in the world’s biggest power, namely the United States.”

Providing entertainment

QM3D6099.jpgIn tandem with the social side, the sports aspects of the tour are also on the go as the teams taking part in the quadrangular tournament – the Lakers, Clippers, Raptors and Regal Barça – limber up for their games at the Staples Center.

The Barça players are in no doubt that the first game on the tour will be spectacular. During the team’s visit to the Red Shield Center, a girl asked Víctor Sada what will happen in the game early this morning Catalan time between the Los Angeles Lakers and Regal Barça. “I told her we’d try to put on a good show so people would have a good time,” says Sada. “Especially those who are getting up early to see us. Meeting the California Barcelona Supporters’ Club
There was also time to meet the California Barcelona Supporters’ Club. Chairman Joan Laporta spoke to some Club members at the Toyota Sports Center, signed the guest book and had his photo taken with some happy Barça fans.
