The Youth B team started the Under 17 Copa Independència, being held in Mexico until August 19th, with a 2-1 win over America thanks to a last minute strike that leaves them top of their group.
Penalty decides the game
The Youth B team took the lead with a a great header from Munir el Hadad and were clearly superior to their opponents, who nevertheless managed an equaliser in the second half when Sergio Rodríguez fired home. With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Barça were awarded a late penalty and Àlex Corredera stepped up to make it 2-1.
The win leaves Barça top of their group after Boca, who they will face in the next game on Wednesday, drew with Chivas in the other match.
Boca the only big names to lose
As well as Barça, Fiorentina and Porto Alegre also won their openers, beating Pumas and Pachuca in Group B. The semi finals will see the winners of the groups playing the second place teams from the other group.
