After getting the 1991/92 league season off to a poor start, Barça had been eight points behind Real Madrid, and that in the days when wins were still only worth two points. But Cruyff’s side did not throw in the towel. They started cutting down that margin to the extent that by the time they played the clásico at the Camp Nou, the difference was down to just one. That wasn’t the best of days, because Koeman’s converted free kick was cancelled out by a lucky Hierro goal. But it all ended happily. Madrid lost on the final day in Tenerife and Barça won the title at the very last gasp.
