Fontàs tore cruciate ligaments in his right knee and following surgery missed the remainder of last season
Andreu Fontàs is the third player to be declared fully recovered this preseason after a long absence through injury, following David Villa and Carles Puyol. The centre back has been training with the first team since they returned after the summer break.
Seven month recovery
Fontàs tore cruciate ligaments in his right knee at the Reyno de Navarra in the 11th minute of the Copa del Rey match with Osasuna last January 12, a game Barça went on to win 6-1 on aggregate. Following surgery, the centre back missed the rest of the season and for the last seven months has been battling to get fit again. That battle was finally declared won on Tuesday and he may well return to first team action in one of the two friendlies in Gothenburg and Bucharest this week.
