Barça Atlètic 1-1 Arenteiro: Bittersweet draw

Biggest home crowd of the season sees the Galicians snatch away the blaugrana lead and get away with a point

Barça Atlètic have tied at home to Arenteiro in a game in which both goals were scored from corners. Alexis Olmedo was able to celebrate his first blaugrana goal in front of the biggest crowd of the season at the Estadi Johan Cruyff an excellent 6,358, but the game would end a goal apiece. Next Saturday, the reserves are off to Salamanca to face Unionistas at 7pm CEST.

Early injury

The game began with a barrage of assaults on the Arenteiro goal, and after 12 minutes the visiting goalkeeper Diego García was seriously hurt. He had to be stretchered off and replaced by Pablo Brea, and everyone obviously wishes him a rapid recovery.

Once the game was back under way, Barça Atlètic continued continued where they had left off, attacking and their insistence finally paid off when a Unai Hernández corner was brilliantly headed in by Alexis Olmedo, thus continuing the excellent goalscoring run for the defenders in Rafa Marquez's squad.

There was still time for Moha to hit the post before the break, and from what we had seen so far, a home win was looking a certainty.

But football does strange things sometimes. Arenteiro were a different side in the second half, and Marc Vidal was a lot busier in the home nets. And on 61 minutes a Pibe corner was met by Manín Gonzaga. The opposing striker's initial effort was saved but Gonzaga was quick onto the rebound and this time made no mistake.

Barça Atlètic didn't feel they deserved this, and ploughed forward in search of chances to re-establish their lead. But Arenteiro were happy with what they had done and settled back to defend the draw en masse. That they did and Barça are only getting a point out of a game in which they can rightfully feel frustrated that it wasn't the full three.
