Barça 85-88 Río Breogán: Defeat at the Palau

The blaugranes lose out to the Galicians after a tough final quarter

A loss for Barça at the Palau Blaugrana as visitors Río Breogán claimed an 85-88 win. The Galician side turned around a game in which the blaugranes were on top offensively during the second and third quarters. Dario Brizuela and Willy Hernangómez were most effective for the home side, who now have to prepare for game against Fenerbahce on Wednesday.

Breogán gain an early foothold

A good start for the blaugranes saw them go 5-0 up in the first minute, but despite Da Silva and Willy Hernangómez' efforts to extend the lead, Breogán flexed their offensive muscles, including scoring 6/9 from three-pointers. The -10 scoreline saw coach Grimau call the first time out and by the time Brizuela scored a late three-pointer in the quarter, the score was back to 23-26.

The visitors continued to push in the second quarter, but Barça captain Alex Abrines stepped up to score nine points in the period, with a Jokubaitis basket on 07:46 taking the blaugranes back into the lead. Baskets were being exchanged, but Brizuela again came with the magic, enchanting the Palau with an alley-oop that Willy Hernangómez finished with a second to go to the break. 47-46 at halftime.

Barça react but away side grab the win

The Catalans remained in front throughout the third quarter, despite Río Breogán's best efforts. This was the best period of team play from every one of the Barça players during the game, and they ended the quarter 72-67 up.

Not a great start to the final quarter, as the Galicians went ahead after a three-pointer by McLemore, who joined Sergi García in being difference-makers for the side from Lugo. A Brizuela assist and three-pointer redressed the balance to 85-85, but a 2+1 from McLemore made it 85-88, which was enough to see out the victory.
