The best version of Barça Regal is back. After last week’s letdown in the Final Four in Istanbul, the Azulgranas managed to take an easy victory over Lucentum Alicante at the Palau Blaugrana. Xavi Pascual’s team, who played without Navarro, took a one-game lead in the quarter-final series and if they win on Sunday at the Centro de Tecnificación in Alicante (12:30, Esport3) they’ll be in the semis.
Three out of three
Barça Regal came out of the gates swinging. The team, employing a good mentality and scoring most of their shots, quickly took the lead against Lucentum. In the blink of an eye the Azulgranas nailed four out of five three pointers. Lucentum, without key players like Llompart, Rautins and Ellis, were only able to score 6 points in the first 10 minutes. The first quarter came to en end with 21-6 on the scoreboard.
Lucentum tried to react at the start of the second quarter. In fact, they did manage a 0-5 run. The good start from the visiting side was just an illusion, however. Barça quickly hit back with a an 11-0 run themselves taking their advantage to +19 points (32-13). Without Navarro on the court, Huertas stepped up to lead the team, just like he did in the Euroleague’s third and fourth place match. He scored 14 points -including four three pointers- before the half.
Eidson sings onto the party
At the start of the second half, Chuck Eidson took the reins from the Brazilian at the three-point line. The American sunk two three points which took his team to a 20-point advantage over Lucentum (48-28). The visiting team, who were sorely missing one of the best players of the League, Ivanov, could only respond through Koné.
With the game practically decided, the Azulgranas took their foot off the pedal. However, there was still time for Ndong, Mickeal and Vázquez to cap off the the match with dunks. Barça next match against Alicante is scheduled for this Sunday.
