Barça Regal continue their unstoppable march towards the league title with yet another comfortable win in the Palau on Sunday. The victory keeps them at the top of the table and adds to a superb run of nine wins and just one defeat. Despite having had only a couple of days to prepare the game after a midweek Euroleague commitment in Poland, Barça still put in a solid performance. They improved steadily over the 40 minutes finishing up with a spectacular fourth quarter, much to the delight of the home fans.
Low scoring start
Gran Canaria started well and, though not having a single away win to their name, took the game to Barça. However, fierce defending from the home players forced them to try their luck with three-pointers. Juan Carlos Navarro, who was dropped from the squad to play Asseco Prokom due to injury, came on court three minutes before the end of the first quarter. Meanwhile, JC Wallace faced his former team-mates for the first time. The score at the end of the first quarter was 15-13.
Barça widen the gap
Marcelinho netted 7 of his team's 9 points in the opening 20 minutes of the game, allowing Barça Regal to open up a sizeable gap on the scoreboard. Play was fast and furious and a partial score of 0-4 in favour of the visitors prompted Xavi Pascual to call time out to tighten up Barça's defending. Whatever he said it worked and in the remaining minutes before halftime Barça increased their lead to 12 points (36-24).
Barça turn on the spectacle
Gran Canaria started strongly after the break thanks to their accuracy from the three point line but Barça Regal soon regained control of the game. They kept fully focussed for the rest of the game and continued to increase their lead until they were 20 points ahead. With the result now guaranteed, the players treated the fans to some show-stopping basketball. The final result, a comfortable win for Barça Regal (65-49).
