The two teams came out onto the court of Palau Sant Jordi with ambition. Barça and Lucentum duked it out and stayed on level terms in the first quarter. In the second, however, Barça put the pedal to the metal and shot ahead. Rabaseda, Navarro and Sada were Barça’s best players on offence, and Vazquez, Ndong and Lorbek did equally as well at the back.
Xavi Rabaseda made it difficult for the Alicante team by sinking three triples in a row. The Barça player, in his debut in the King’s Cup, had 10 points at the half. Barça’s defence, led by an intimidating Vazquez, was also up to the task.
24-12 in the second quarter
After the 17-13 scoreline at the end of the first quarter in favour of the defending champions, Barça shot ahead in the second. The Catalan team quickly added to their lead and finished the second quarter with a 41-25 advantage. As time went on, Barça Regal felt more comfortable on the court, they were concentrated and they didn’t allow themselves to lose focus. The team set themselves up for success by outscoring Alicante by 24 to 12 in the second quarter. Lorbek, with 12 points, was the highest scorer of the match (he finished the match with 17 points).
Barça’s dominance didn’t falter at the start of the second half. After four minutes, the result was 53-27. Just as in the first half, Xavi Pascual rotated his men off the bench to avoid fatigue. Three spectacular minutes from Navarro and Ndong’s performance in the paint allowed Barça to take a 27-point lead. A fantastic play from Rabaseda ended the third quarter (62-35).
The last quarter started with a 1-11 run in favour of the Alicante side, even though they were being outplayed, they never gave up. However, the flow of the game didn’t change much despite Alicante’s budding resurgence. With Navarro, Rabaseda and Sada on the court, Barça Regal quickly regained their 20-point lead. The final result, 75-54, keeps the Catalans in the hunt for their third consecutive Cup title.
