The Barça Regal players Juan Carlos Navarro and Victor Sada have been preselected for Spain's national team ahead of the London Olympic Games
Marcelinho and Ingles
Marcelinho Huertas and Joe Ingles are the two other Barça Regal players that will feature in the Olympic Games. The Huertas will play for Brazil and the Ingles will play for Australia. Brazil clinched qualification for the London Games in the Americas Championship and Australia come into the Games as the champions of Oceania.
The Barça Regal captain Juan Carlos Navarro and the the point guard Victor Sada have ben preselected by Sergio Scariolo to play for Spain in the London Olympic Games. After Barça won the Liga Endesa title against Real Madrid, the excellent form from both players throughout the season has given them the chance to travel to Madrid and join the Spanish national team. If they are selected, they’ll travel to London on July 27th.
Sada’s debut in the Olympics
If Sada is named to the national team, it would be his first showing in the summer Olympic Games. He also played for Spain in the 2011 Lithuania European Championship, where he won a gold medal. It would be Navarro’s fourth appearance in the Games, after playing in Sydney (2000), Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008).
If the Barça captain features in the Games this summer, he would equal Juan Antonio San Epifanio as the Spanish athlete with the most Olympic Game appearances. Furthermore, Navarro would add yet another important international tournament to his impressive résumé after featuring in 12 competitions for Spain (European Championships, World Cups and Olympic Games). If given the chance, Navarro would like to improve upon the silver medal he won in Beijing after Spain lost to the United States in the final.
Two ex-Azulgranas preselected
Besides Navarro and Sada, there are two other players that have a FC Barcelona history on Scariolo’s preselected list: the Gasol brothers. Ricky Rubio, however, was not named to the team. The NBA player is recovering from a serious knee injury and has been replaced by Real Madrid’s Sergio Rodríguez. The rest of the players named to Spain’s preselected team are Calderón, Llull, Rafa Martínez, Rudy Fernández, San Emeterio, Claver, Ibaka and Reyes.
