The Barça Regal players are disappointed with their slow start in the Liga, but they are determined to start off the Euroleague with a victory on Friday at the Palau Blaugrana
Pascual, one of three managers to win the title
There are only three managers that have won the title in this year’s Euroleague. They are Ettore Messina (4 titles), Bozidar Maljkovic (4) and the Blaugrana Xavi Pascual (1). The manager with the most Euroleague titles is Zeljko Obradovic (8).
The most important thing is how you end, not how you start. Barça Regal, after losing its first two ACB matches of the season, will begin its Euroleague season this Friday with a “willingness” to win and with two clearly defined goals: improving and wining. “It will be a very difficult competition. The match against Brose Baskets will be very tough, but we’re ready,” said Pete Mickeal, one of the standout players against the Dallas Mavericks.
The victory against the NBA team has filled the Blaugrana ranks with confidence. Echoing manager Xavi Pascual after Tuesday’s match, Navarro said: “We haven’t started our season off well, but this victory will help us gain confidence.”
For the Blaugrana captain, the match against the Mavs was especially important: “I’m not at 100% yet. I felt good on the court, even though I’m lacking a bit of rhythm because I haven’t played for two months.”
Saras: “We’re a bit behind”
The impressions left by the Barça Regal team on Tuesday evening were fairly positive. Despite the victory over the NBA team, Saras Jasikevicius believes that the team is still building itself up: “We’re aware that we’re a bit behind. We’re missing something, but we’re trying to improve on a daily basis.” Jawai adds, “no one should come to the Palau, our home, and beat us. It was a disappointment (in reference to the lost ACB match at home) but now it’s time to focus and win, even though it won’t be easy. Hopefully we’ll improve with our fantastic fans cheering us on.”
“The people have already seen a change in the team and we’ll try to improve our game. We have a lot of new faces and we have to play better as a group. We’ll grow as we play together,” said Navarro. The team is ready for its debut match in Europe.
