US centre and power forward Joey Dorsey, 2.03 m and 29 years old, will be at FC Barcelona next season as long as he passes his medical. Dorsey, who is signing for one season with an option to one more, arrives from Gaziantep in Turkey and has plenty of experience in Europe. He started the 2011/12 season with Laboral Kutxa and ended it at Olympiakos in Greece, where he helped the team to the league title as well as the Euroleague in Istanbul, beating CSKA Moscow in the final. In the Final Four 2012 semi-finals against Barça, Dorsey scored 8 points and took 5 rebounds in 24 minutes.
He is a well-built, intense and physical player, strong in defence and especially proficient at collecting offensive rebounds. He began 2012/13 with the Greek outfit, but later moved to Turkish club Gaziantep, where he averaged 16.1 points and 12.5 rebounds per game.
He is a product of the University of Memphis, from where he was drafted in 2008 by the Portland Trail Blazers, who traded him to the Houston Rockets, although spent most of his time there at Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the NBA Development League. He struggled to make his mark on the NBA, playing just 61 games in four seasons and starting only nine of them. His best season in the USA was 2010/11, when he played 43 games and an average of 12 minutes with the Toronto Raptors.
