Barça Regal won its first game of the Liga this Sunday evening. The Blaugrana beat UCAM de Murcia by 87 to 66. Tomic was the best player of the first half with 14 points. Barça Regal played more comfortably with Navarro on the court and went to the break with an advantage of 42-25.
UCAM dominated the beginning of the third quarter, but Marcelinho’s accuracy, Rabasseda’s three pointers and Tomic’s power in the paint was enough to stave off the visiting team’s attempted comeback (65-46). The final minutes of the match saw ‘Saras’ Jasickevicius play and score for the first time at the Palau in the Liga since he’s departure nine years ago.
Tomic and Marcelinho carry the team
The Blaugranas need a couple of minutes to find their form at the start of the first quarter. UCAM tried to take the early lead through three-point shots but their low conversion rate from the perimeter allowed Xavi Pascual’s men to find their form. Ante Tomic, just as in past games, was one of the standout players in the first quarter. The Croat scored 14 points and led the Blaugrana in the first two quarters. With Juan Carlos Navarro on the court and with Marcelinho Huertas’ performance, who scored the same amount of points in as Tomic, Barça’s control on the match tightened.
Barça passes third quarter test
Up until now Barça Regal’s performances in third quarters haven’t been the best. In the team’s past matches, the men led by Pascual scored only 9 points. This time, however, the Blaugrana knocked down 23 points. Even though the team put in a good performance in the third quarter, the second was when Barça really shined. Pascual’s men outscored UCAM by 20 to 8 in the second 10 minutes of the match.
Juan Carlos Navarro’s presence on the court really helped Barça Regal. The captain’s experience once again proved essential for the team as the Blaugrana improved their play and were more incisive with their passing with Barça’s number 9 on the court.
With this victory Barça Reagal closes off a perfect week that started with a victory over the Dallas Mavericks at the Palau Sant Jordi which was followed by a victory in the Euroleague against Brose Basket.
