FC Barcelona and the Croatian power forward Ante Tomic have agreed to a three-year deal
Ante Tomic will defend the Barça Regal strip for the next three seasons with the option of an additional season at the conclusion of the first three. The Croatian power forward, who is 217 centimeters tall, is excellent with his back to the basket and his footwork is superb. On defence, Tomic is known for his blocks and his ability to scoop up rebounds.
In the Liga Endesa’s 2010/11 All-Star team
The new Barça Regal player was born in Dubrovnik (Croatia) on December 17, 1987. He started playing basketball in his hometown until 2004 when he signed with KK Zagreb. He made a name for himself in the Croatian basketball team. He won the Adriatic League (2008) and was named the MVP of the competition in 2009. In 2008 he was picked in the second round of the NBA draft by the Utah Jazz but his career took him to the Liga Endesa.
He signed for Real Madrid in 2010 and has remained there ever since. In the 2010/11 season he was named to the All-Star team of the Liga Endesa and this last season he won the Copa del Rey in the final against Barça Regal at the Palau Sant Jordi. With Los Blancos, Tomic averaged 8.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per match in the Liga Endesa and 9.1 points and 4.5 rebounds in the Euroleague.
International with Croatia
Tomic is a key player for the Croatian national team. In 2009 he won the Gold Medal in the Mediterranean Games in Pescara (Italy), in addition he played for his cournty in the World Cup in Turkey in 2010 and the Euro Championship in Lithuania in 2011.
