Abrines is eager to play in "one of the best clubs in Europe"
On Jasikevicius: "I don't care about his age, he's a fantastic player"
Excellent experience in Slovenia
“The experience of playing in the U-20 in Slovenia was excellent. It was a shame that we weren’t able to get past the semi-finals. I believed that we deserved a bit more, especially considering the team we had,” said Abrines, who won the Bronze Medal in the U-20 Euro.
Alex Abrines is the fourth player Barça Regal have brought in ahead of the 2012/13 season. For the young Mallorca-born player being part “of one of the best teams in Europe is an honour.”
The new Azulgrana player is clear that he’ll try to win the confidence of Xavi Pascual with “hard work” and he’s especially excited to share the court with “an idol like Navarro.” Abrines adds that he’ll do everything in his power to be “the new Navarro.”
A star-studded team
For the ex-Unicaja Málaga player, signing for an important team like FC Barcelona implies a lot of things, among them, being on the same team with international basketball stars: “last season I was lucky enough to share the dressing room with two great players like Berni Rodríguez and Jorge Garbajosa and this season I’ll be with Navarro and Sada. If Sada stays with the team, it would be a dream come true for me. Navarro is an idol to a lot of youngsters that play the sport and now I have the chance to play alongside him.”
Jasikevicius, Tomic and Jawai
“It doesn’t matter how old Jasikevicius is. I think he’s a fantastic player. He’s always been up there and I’m sure that he’ll continue to play at a high level. When it comes to the other two, they are both important players that are now part of a highly competitive side - it’ll be difficult to win a spot on the team,” admits Abrines.
Grateful to Málaga
After his two-year stint with Málaga, Abrines arrives to the Palau Blaugrana with the intention of improving his game. Being a Barça Regal player is very important, however the newest addition to the Catalan side is thankful to his ex-team: “in Málaga they gave me the chance to play with the first team. I was given a lot of minutes on the court and the truth is that I’ll always be grateful to them.”
