Navarro and Sada will compete for a medal, Sauras misses out

Jasikevicius’ Lithuania said goodbye to its Olympic Medal hopes after a hard-fought game against Russia. The Russians, who finished first in Group B, quickly jumped to a 17-10 lead in the first quarter but a good second quarter from the Lithuanians brought the difference between the two sides to only five points at the break (32-27). At the start of the second half, the Russians, led by a fantastic Kirilenko - who scored 19 points, claimed 13 rebounds and received 7 fouls - took a 12-point lead. Lithuania, however, fought back in the third quarter to come within one point (54-53).

Kirilenko and his teammates outscored Lithuania 29 to 24 in the final 10 minutes of the match, thus securing passage to the semifinals of the Olympic Games. Jasikevicius, who had an uncharacteristic discreet performance this Wednesday, spent 19 minutes on the court and gave 3 assists, scored 3 points and secured 2 rebounds. The Barça Regal player, however, closed out his Olympic campaign as one of the best passers of the tournament, averaging five assists per match.

Spain will compete for an Olympic Medal

Sergio Scariolo’s men will fight for an Olympic Medal after Spain beat Tony Parker’s France by 59-66. The Azulgrana Juan Carlos Navarro finished the match with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Spain trailed France until the last quarter, when Scariolo’s men went on a 6-15 run. Spain’s fourth-quarter push was enough to seal passage to the semi-finals.

Spain will face Russia in the next round of the Olympics this Friday.
