Xavi Pascual will be head coach of Barça Regal until June 30, 2015. At a press conference on Friday, appearing along with director Joan Bladé and technical secretary Joan Creus, the agreement agreed to a week ago was officially formalised, and Pascual spoke about how optimistic he is about the future. This summer has seen a number of changes to the roster, with five new faces, but the coach feels that “there are no transition years at Barça … we always have to be competitive.” The Palau Blaugrana expects the best every year.
Creus: “We’re on the right track”
The team will be competing for every title at stake. But Joan Creus has asked for “a little time, maybe a few months” in order for the players to get to know each other. “The basis of the team includes four or five new players, which I wouldn’t call renovation, rather it’s looking ahead to the future … But we are on the right track. Pascual tries to produce modern and attractive basketball, that makes us grander and attracts people”.
The Club trusts Xavi Pascual, but also trusts its youth system. “We want to reproduce the model that’s working for the football team”, said Joan Bladé, the director responsible for the section. “Over the next few years there will be some strong youngsters knocking on the first team door … That doesn’t mean that Barça Regal don’t want top level players, but they have to be role models for these young players”.
Pascual is optimistic about all this, saying “in the near future I’m sure we’ll see a lot of new faces, but only when these youngsters are able to cope with the demands of the first team, which are very high”.
