Barça Regal have enjoyed unprecedented success these past four years. The Azulgranas have won 12 of the last 16 titles in play and they’re the leaders of European basketball. Since Xavi Pascual took the reins of the basketball team, in February 2008, Barça Regal have claimed the Euroleague, three Liga Endesas, two Copas del Rey, three SuperCups and three Catalan Leagues. Furthermore, with Pascual on the bench, Barça have featured in all of the ACB finals, and the Azulgranas have always made it, at the very least, to the Euroleague quarterfinals.
This glorious cycle started with the Liga title in the 2008/09 season, when the Azulgranas beat Tau Cerámica in the final. Since then, the team’s trajectory has been brilliant: four titles in the 2009/10 season, four more titles in the 2010/11 season and three more titles this year. The only titles to slip away from Barça’s grasp are two Euroleagues, one Liga Endesa and one Copa del Rey.
The Liga title closes out a year where Barça Regal played in nearly every possible final (which led to three titles). Pascual’s men beat RealMadrid in the final of the Super Cup and in the Liga Endesa Final, but they lost to Los Blancos in the Copa del Rey. The Azulgrana side also featured in the Final Four of the Euroleague, where they lost to Olympiacos, a team that went on to win the competition. In the final of the Catalan League, Barça Regal beat FIATC Joventut.
